Admissions and Financial Information
• Admissions
There are two modes of admission to YSU;
• Transfer from an accredited university or college (see Transfer of Credits),
• Freshman admission.
Admission to YSU is based on students’ personal and academic records/achievements. All available information is considered; including but not limited to high school records, evidence of academic achievement and personal character standardized test scores, extracurricular activities and general contributions to school and community.
• Qualifications
Applicants must possess:
• A high school graduation diploma and transcript or other equivalent certificates or diplomas as authorized by the Ministry of Education from the student’s native country
• Documentation from a registered physician stating that the applicant is free from infectious diseases that can could hinder their studyStudents must testify that they are committed to pursuing their studies with academic integrity, diligence and dedication and conform to the university rules and regulations.
Documentation and Application Fees
○ A photocopy of the student’s High School Diploma certificate or its equivalent.
○ Four 3x4 cm photographs
○ Application fee of $50 USD
○ Identification documents e.g. a copy of the student’s visa, identity card or passport

Placement Tests and Interviews
All applicants must sit a placement test and undergo an interview in Bahasa Indonesia one week after their arrival at the university . The placement test is designed to measure students levels of Bahasa Indonesia so that it can be decided whether or not the applicants will be required to undertake the Indonesian Language Intensive Course before starting their regular study program . Some faculties or major e.g. Music, Karawitan , Dance and Javanese Language have additional requirements, including but not limited to additional tests and interviews. Enquiries regarding extra requirements should be directed to individual faculties
Indonesian Language Intensive Course Policy
Participants in the Indonesian Language Intensive Course are placed in one of three classes (Novice, Intermediate or Advanced) according to their skill level as determined by their placement test results. The intensive course is taken in order to improve students’ knowledge of and skills in Indonesian Language and Culture and to review their skills in the subject chosen . The exemption will be given to students with fluent Indonesian language skill. After the applicants completed the courses, applicants results will be reviewed before applicants are permitted to commence their regular study program in the Odd Semester.
Transfer of Credits
YSU accepts transfer students under the condition that they are in good standing with the last institution attended and that they meet admission standards. To ensure proper processing of applications, each candidate is required to submit an official transcript from their previous University or College to the Office of the University Registrar. A maximum of 20 Credits can be transferred. The transfer of credits will be approved provided that the following requirements are fulfilled:
The course was undertaken (do you mean undertaken or completed, if the course is completed then the student wouldn’t be transferring, they would be enrolling in a new course as a new UNY student) at an institution accredited by the Ministry of Education
The course content is equivalent to that of the applicant’s course of choice as specified in the University’s curriculum .
The passing grade of the destination-department is not higher than the passing grade of the origin-department.
The applicant has undertaken a minimum of 40 credits with a minimum GPA of 2.75
The applicant’s lowest grade must be no lower that C (satisfactory) (A maximum of 20 Credits can be transferred.
SCHOLARSHIP FOR INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS
For years, YSU has been establishing partnership with the Ministry of National Education (MoNE) in granting of scholarships for International students. The two most prominent scholarship programs are the Darmasiswa RI Scholarship Program and the DCPS (of Developing Countries Partnership Scholarship scholarship. Both programs are offered annually for all dynamic intellectuals who strive to gain unique experiences by studying in Indonesia.
Darmasiswa RI Scholarship Program
Yogyakarta State University (YSU) has established a strong partnership with the Ministry of National Education (MoNE) and is one of the home universities for the Darmasiswa Scholarship Program. YSU annually accepts international students who have obtained the Darmasiswa Scholarship to study Bahasa Indonesia and Indonesian culture and arts. The scholarship program covers either six months or one year of a non-degree program. Further information is available at http://darmasiswa.diknas.go.id/
Developing Countries Partnership Scholarship (DCPS)
Since 2005 YSU has been one of the partner universities for the Developing Countries Partnership Scholarship Program (DCPS). The Ministry of National Education (MoNE) works in cooperation with a number of developing countries such as Thailand, Vietnam, Fiji, Suriname, Turkey and Gambia to provide scholarships for students to study in Indonesia.
